This is a House of Prayer

Jesus said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you make it a den of robbers.”

Matthew 21:13

The other night I attended a weekly gathering in a city. We had a wonderful time of fellowship, worship, prayer, and prophesying over people. 

During the time of worship the host played a song that I had never heard before. It is a new song in the Christian world, and I pulled up the lyrics on my phone to follow along. It's not the kind of song that you could probably sing on a Sunday morning, but I was blown away by the lyrics. The host played it a second time, and I sang along gently, reading the lyrics out as I sang. I had the thought,


"This is like a Mission Statement in a song"


I wept, and was moved, and my thoughts were stirring. I mused how if the church adopted these lyrics as their tenets, we would be a lot closer to where we need to be. I also personalised it—IF I ADOPTED THESE LYRICS AS MY TENETS THEN I'D BE CLOSER TO WHERE I NEED TO BE!

Many times, in our aim to be "biblical", we have erred from the example of Jesus' life. The people in the Temple were selling and trading, all in the name of Temple Worship. Jesus' words, from the verse above, were followed by action. He turned the tables over. Are we guilty today of "Temple Worship", where we love "our" church or organisation above Jesus? 

Have a listen to this song, read the lyrics, and can I encourage you to address the areas of your life where you're not living this out. We are the Temple now, we are the House of Prayer (1 Corinthians 6:19). Lord, help us act accordingly!

  Let me tell you about a wonderful couple called Dick and Gladys Funnell. They have become my new best friends. Just one visit with them and I was impacted. Dick and Gladys moved here from America in the early 2000's to pray for Revival. God orchestrated it beautifully. Over the years they have connected with, and championed those who are for revival. Preparing for a Move of God

Many years ago I was in a church in Germany. Me and one of my best friends, Nathan, were visiting a friend in that city, and he took us to his church. It was a very lively charismatic church. It was fun, the singing was loud and enthusiastic. During the end of the worship time the pastor's wife invited people who "wanted a touch from God" forward for prayer, and this included "a healing touch". Nathan was sick with a cold, so he went forward for prayer.  About ten to fifteen people were stood in line, and I watched as the pastor's wife began to pray for the people. The music was pumping, and every person hit the floor like a sack of kartoffeln (potatoes in German).  As the people fell, it felt like the music got louder, the congregation were clapping, and there was excitement in the air. My initial thought was, "Oh man, Nathan's going to get smashed!". He was next in line, and when she laid her hands on him nothing happened. I laughed to myself...

How to Present the Whole Gospel in Wales!

  A friend drew the above picture, while I was teaching on Healing at a conference in Merthyr a few years ago. I love it. Jesus is depicted as praying for two people, a "2 for the Pirce of 1" special! I love it! THIS is part of the Gospel we are called to display. A Gospel that saves the whole person, Spirit, Soul, and Body.
